Writing Coaching

Seminars and 1:1 coaching on writing objectives, stories, and acceptance criteria in user voice — the discipline that the tools coach inline, taught in person by IPP consultants.

Writing in user voice is genuinely hard. Most product teams can recognize a good objective when they read one and still struggle to write one. The Objectives Backlog℠ and Development Backlog℠ tools coach the discipline inline through advisory flags and writing-assistant heuristics. Writing Coaching engagements deepen that practice through facilitated exercises.

Typical seminar agenda: the user-voice principle and the speaker-naming discipline, common writing failure modes (system-behavior language, ambiguous outcomes, missing “so that” clauses), the want / need distinction in story authoring, acceptance criteria as evidence of beneficial outcome (not implementation checklists), and live-rewrites of the team’s own backlog items in real time.

Formats: half-day seminars for product teams; multi-session programs for organizations rolling the practice out across multiple groups; 1:1 coaching for PM leads who want to internalize the discipline before teaching it to their own teams.

This engagement complements Framework Training, which covers the structural frameworks. Writing Coaching is the practitioner-skill counterpart — applied, repetitive, and grounded in the actual artifacts the team is already producing.
